Statutory regulate the profession of sports therapy, as recommended by the HPC

Please take the time to sign this UK Government and Parliament petition.

The petition is for the Statutory regulation of the profession of sports therapy, as recommended by the Health and Care Professions Council. In 2011 the Health Professions council made a formal recommendation to the Secretary of State for Health and to Scottish Ministers for the regulation of sports therapists under Article 3 (17) (a) of the Health Professions Order 2001. This fast growing profession should be regulated.More detailsThe Society of Sports Therapists defines sports therapy as 'Sports Therapy is an aspect of healthcare that is specifically concerned with the prevention of injury and the rehabilitation of the patient back to optimum levels of functional, occupational and sports specific fitness, regardless of age and ability'. Statutory regulating it would protect patients and thousands of therapists, and prevent discrimination from employers who disregard the profession due to its non-regulated status.
